Today Port Franks had some notable visitors – Leo Luong of the Province of Ontario Water Management Program and Ted Briggs, Great Lakes Advisor for the Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks. During their visit, Mari Valiz of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority facilitated their interaction with LSPCG directors Janice and Petar Cuckovic. They provided an in-depth overview of the organization’s efforts to combat Phragmites, emphasizing collaborative partnerships, substantial volunteer contributions, and significant in-kind support from contractors. Effectively conveying the scope and impact of these restoration endeavours can be challenging, particularly given the area’s current excellent state. Nevertheless, ongoing efforts are necessary to maintain progress. It is hoped that these visitors gained a deeper understanding of the area’s unique characteristics and the community’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
